Dear Readers,

Happy Father’s Day from Acme Dentistry! Does Dad always look a little close-mouthed in family photos? Is he not smiling because he is unhappy, or because his teeth are yellow? Unfortunately, many fathers are the last ones in the family to get proper medical and dental attention. If your father always puts the needs of your family first, give him the gift of a brighter smile this Father’s Day. Set up an appointment for teeth whitening at Acme Dentistry and we’ll send him home with a smile!

Once Dad has a brighter smile, here are some fun facts about fathers and teeth that will make him smile and show off his new grin – just be sure to have your camera ready!

  • Teeth of our forefathers: We all know George Washington had false teeth, but did you realize that they were not made of wood? He had numerous dentures that were constructed of his own pulled teeth, ivory, animal teeth, various metals, and even real teeth from other people, but none of them were very comfortable, even with continuous adjustments. Let us help you preserve your natural teeth, or create a set of modern, comfortable dentures just for you.
  • Something to gawk at: Speaking of the Father of Our Country, those false teeth were actually on display at the 1933 Chicago’s World’s Fair. Visitors were able to look, but not touch as the teeth were highly guarded and kept in a tiny viewing vault built especially for the occasion.
  • A brighter note: Thomas Jefferson, on the other hand, had great teeth – even in his 80s. His secret is what we preach to this day – great oral hygiene. Jefferson declared his independence from the bacteria-harboring sponges of the day and swore allegiance to toothbrushes with soft bristles. He also saw a dentist regularly and used the colonial version of an interdental stimulator between his teeth. These are great oral care tips to this day.
  • The beginning of dental DNA: In addition to his many other talents, Paul Revere used some of his silversmith skills to make dentures. When a family was trying to locate the body of a fallen hero which was buried in a mass grave, Revere was able to make a positive identification because he recognized his own dental work in the remains.

Let us help your dad finally get the smile he deserves. Our practice utilizes dental whitening products from Life-Like Cosmetic Solutions, the original teeth whitening system. We offer in-office professional teeth whitening, and send patients home with an in-home whitening kit to extend the benefits even longer.
