Happy 4th of July from Acme Dentistry!

It is summertime and we all feel great about our plans. The 4th of July is a festive and patriotic event, and there are ball games, beach jaunts, vacations, hiking, sports, barbeques and so much more to enjoy. Each day is jam-packed from one end to the other, but being busy is no excuse to neglect dental care. You want to look and feel your best, so you can really enjoy yourself this summer.

We all look better in the summer with tans, extra exercise and brightly-colored clothing. Why take away from that healthy glow with yellow or stained teeth, when we provide teeth whitening services right here in our cosmetic dentistry office? Our practice utilizes dental whitening products from Life-Like Cosmetic Solutions, the original tooth whitening specialists. We start with an in-office procedure that utilizes professional strength teeth whitening products to produce quick results and minimize sensitivity. Then you’ll receive an in-home whitening kit to complement our work and extend the benefits even longer. Life-Like’s teeth whitening products come with the industry’s only 100% satisfaction, money-back guarantee, so you never have to worry.

Moms and dads, make sure you protect your children’s teeth when they are engaging in summer sports by bringing them to our office for a custom-molded mouthguard. Did you know that athletes are sixty times more likely to suffer harm to their teeth when not wearing a mouthguard?  Our practice sees far too many unnecessary cracked and lost teeth in young mouths due to sports injuries. The cheaper mouthguards you see in the store may not fit properly and may interfere with breathing, but a custom guard is made from a cast model of the patient’s teeth. These guards cover all the teeth and are shown to provide the best type of protection from broken teeth, jaw injuries or cuts to the lip, tongue or face.  Mouthguards may also reduce the rate and severity of concussions.

Make sure your child rinses the mouthguard before and after each use, and occasionally brushes it. The guard should be cleaned using cool, soapy water, rinsed thoroughly, and stored in a sturdy container that has drying vents. Do not leave a mouthguard moist, as that may allow bacteria to grow and increases the chance of periodontal infections. Guards should not be left in hot water or in the sun, as this could change the fit and diminish the protection. Parents should check the guard regularly for wear, and make sure your child brings it to all dental visits so we can make sure it continues doing its job.

Start the summer off with a blast with whiter and safer teeth, and don’t forget to continue brushing and flossing daily! Feel free to contact our dental office with any questions you have about cosmetic dentistry, oral hygiene, or dental teeth whitening. We hope you will consider discussing the benefits of teeth whitening with our dental professional, and wish your family a very Happy Summer!
